US, Thai & WFP (Thai) relief supplies arrived and more news

International community is continuously providing relief supplies for the areas severely hit by the Cyclone Nargis.
Three IL-76 and one AN-12 aircraft carrying foodstuff, medicines, plastic sheets, mosquito nets, blankets, computer accessories, plastic mats, construction materials, pillows, beds, mosquito repellent, saws, nails, medicines for malaria, fever and diarrhea weighing 62.356 tons donated by WFP based in Thailand, three C-130 aircraft carrying tents, purified water bottles, instant noodles, soy bean milk, cookies, milk and snacks weighing 18.89 tons donated by the United States of America and IL-76 and AN-12 aircraft carrying rice, medicines, wire, tarpaulin, nylon rope weighing 18.006 tons donated by the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand arrived at the Yangon International Airport on Friday.
Venerable Sayadaw Van Shi Fezho of the Golden Pagoda Buddhist Temple in Singapore donated 20 million Kyats for storm victims and 5 million Kyats for TwanTay Township Women’s Center under the Social Welfare Department at MayKhaLar Hall of Fire Service Department in Mayangone Township.

With sincere goodwill and deep sympathy based on national spirit, departmental personnel, social organizations, Tatmadaw families and wellwishers from respective States and Divisions are providing cash and kind istance for the storm victims.
The cash and kind donations in total amounted over 12,282.95 million Kyats up to the 13th June.

In order to observe health care services for the storm victims in Myanmar South East Asia regional director of the WHO Dr.Samlee Pilangbangchang arrived in Yangon Friday and he was welcomed by Deputy Minister for Health Dr. Mya Oo and officials at Yangon International Airport.
Deputy Minister Dr. Mya Oo and the WHO regional director discussed istance to be provided for the teaching aids and syllabus for human resource development and programmes of training the trainers at the meeting hall of the University for public health.
They also visited rescue camps for the storm victims opened in Tada of Kyauktan township where they studied health care services contributed by volunteer house surgeons. They later supported the storm victims residing in temporary tents and studied drinking water supply and sanitation work. Next, the WHO regional director donated medicines for health care services at the rescue camps. The Deputy Minister and the WHO regional director visited Tada People’s Hospital where they studied medical treatment provided for the storm victims.
